@Retro-Arcade-Fan It will upgrade all packages that are visible to the OS packet manager(s)[1], if that includes emulators they will also be updated - but that is a question best be answered by people with more insight/knowledge of the retropie-setup script.

[At least on the Pi4 where I have RetroPie installed on top of the legacy Raspberry OS I haven't encountered anything like broken emulators after a full-upgrade, but i am only using a limited set of games/emulators on that machine]

      1: like apt, apt-get, aptitude ...

@mitu #FacePalm Yes, it is a 1708 model, but, I totally forgot about the pair button VS just holding the X-Box button to connect. Thank you for screwing my head on straight; sometimes you can see the forest full of trees, sometimes you can't...

The safest option would be be to install the latest Raspberry Pi OS Lite - which should have the USB boot supporting firmware on the/boot partition - on the USB disk, then perform a Manual install of RetroPie. The EEPROM bootloader is already updated, so USB boot should work.

      Hi,

It seems that using a different USB cable has solved the issue. I have successfully updated to 1.2.0.

      Many thanks

@saikyo78 you shouldn't have to, i didnt downgrade my controller after playing on the Switch, and im currently using it on Retropie. (Maybe 8bitdo has updated their manual / faq?)

guys watch out the script it uses is located at http://eazyhax.com/pitime/expand_to_external_drive.sh and adds avoid_warnings=2 to /boot/config.txt so remove it afterwards or you won't get notified anymore about undervoltage and high temprature warnings on your pi system. I only found out today.

I haven't had any issues with updating. I have heard of sporadic issues with the dist-upgrade, but they have never affected me. Then again, I'm using the binaries and not really using any of the experimental stuff.

Yeah, don't do this. People have enough problems as it is.
